​NIELIT Shillong handed over land to Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited(HSCL) on 19th Feb 2016 for building of its permanent campus at New Shillong Township area.

Under the project Development of North-Eastern Region by enhancing the Training/Education capacity in the IECT area, an agreement has been signed between Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL) and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to construct NIELIT Shillong’s permanent campus. In view of this, 10 Acres of land of Meghalaya Government at Umsawli, Mawdiangdiang has been handed over to HSCL the Project Management Consultant (PMC) on 19.02.2016. 

The Area is envisaged as the New Shillong Township with many universities(eg Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Fashion Technology, English as a Foreign Language University, etc)  being developed in close proximity.
