ESDM – Launch by Vice Chancellor, Calicut University

 

ESDM Skill Certification Scheme & All India Post Graduate Diploma Programs launched  at NIELIT,Calicut

 

 

NIELIT launched two of its prestigious national level programs meant for capacity building in the areas of Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and on VLSI & Embedded Systems. Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS (Joint Secretary, Govt. of India), launched these programmes on Saturday, 08th February 2014 at 3.00 pm at NIELIT Calicut in an event presided over by Prof. M. Abdul Salam (Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut) and in the presence of Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Managing Director, NIELIT.

Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS briefed about the several initiatives by the Government of India for the development of electronics sector in the country especially about the recently approved National Policy on Electronics (NPE). One of the important objectives of the NPE is to achieve a turnover of about USD 400 Billion by 2020 involving investment of about USD 100 Billion and employment to around 28 million by 2020. The estimated production will reach USD 104 billion by the year 2020, creating a gap of USD 296 billion in demand and production and hence there is a unique opportunity for companies in the ESDM (Electronic System Design & Manufacturing) sector to look at India as their next destination to cater to the domestic Indian demand as well as act as an exports hub.

The Joint Secretary further added that the key areas under ESDM sector are VLSI (Chip) Design and Embedded Software development and hence the launch of the skill certification schemes is a dream come true for all of us, as it can take care of human resource development, needed to make India, a leader in these niche sectors. Prof. (Dr.) M. Abdul Salam the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calicut delivered the presidential address and he congratulated the initiatives by and commitment shown by NIELIT in promoting skill development and making students employment ready in the areas of Electronics and IT. He extended whole hearted support and encouragement of the University of Calicut to NIELIT towards further fostering initiatives in this direction. He welcomed the idea of establishing collaborative centre of research excellence and training programs between NIELIT, Calicut and the university providing opportunities to all beneficiaries in its affiliating institutions. The Vice Chancellor then gave away mementos to toppers of M.Tech & MCA Programs. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma (Managing Director, NIELIT) addressed the audience and handed over the Job offer letters to students of various courses.

ESDM Skill Certification Scheme
The objective of the ESDM scheme is to facilitate Electronic manufacturing Industry through appropriate skilled manpower and create employability to youth through value addition programmes. Under this scheme training institutions in nonformal sector and industries will be granted accreditation to run specified levels subject to meeting the well defined quality norms set by NIELIT. The uniqueness of the programme is, mandatory job training in an Industry. Courses available under the scheme are

NIELIT – ESM-1 (Electronic Product Technician
NIELIT – ESM-2 (Electronic Production Supervisor)
NIELIT – ESM-3 (Electronic Product Design support Engineer)
These courses are aligned with NVEQUI guidelines.

ALL INDIA PG DIPLOMA PROGRAMS [AIPGDP]

All India PG Diploma programs are intended to impart professional hands-on training in designing complex embedded systems and reusable Intellectual Property (IP) Cores for VLSI and thereby to create a pool of ready to employ manpower. Emphasis of the teaching curriculum will be on design methodology and practical applications. The course contents are to be framed by a National Level Committee of Experts from Academia, R&D and Industry, keeping in view the existing and emerging trends and needs for skilled engineers. Being a forerunner in the field, NIELIT Calicut will serve as the principal resource centre for the scheme with all other NIELIT Centers, as the participating institutes Following three PG Diploma programs of 06 months duration will be offered under this scheme, initially

PG Diploma in VLSI & Embedded Hardware Design
PG Diploma in Embedded Real Time Systems
PG Diploma in ASIC Design & Verification
