Building Atmanirbhar Bharath through advanced Science and Technology Training
Atmanirbhar Bharat, the visionary initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, aims to transform the nation into a self-reliant and globally competitive economy. In an era shaped by Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, automation, and rapid technological disruptions, India’s workforce must continuously adapt. While new entrants to the labour market need industry-relevant skills for employability, the existing workforce must be empowered through upskilling and reskilling to remain productive and future-ready. Equally important is the recognition of skills acquired through informal learning and experience.
NIELIT Calicut, originally established in 1989 as the Centre for Electronics Design and Technology (CEDT), has been playing a pioneering role in this national mission. The centre has consistently focused on delivering quality education, advanced training, and skill development in emerging technologies. It also contributes through research & development, product innovation, and industrial consultancy, and is recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
The Centre offers prestigious formal programmes such as B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (AI/ML), M.Tech. in Embedded Systems, Electronics System Design, and Automotive Electronics, along with a diverse portfolio of advanced training programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Embedded Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Automation, VLSI Design, Semiconductor Technologies, and 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing. These programmes are delivered through classroom, blended, and online modes leveraging modern ICT-enabled learning platforms.
NIELIT Calicut is actively associated with flagship initiatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, including the Chips to Startup programme, DRONE and allied technologies, ISEA (Information Security Education and Awareness), FutureSkills PRIME, and capacity-building projects in AI, IoT, and Additive Manufacturing. The centre has also achieved distinction by successfully taping out an ASIC chip and fabricating it at SCL, Mohali.
A significant milestone is the establishment of the Skilled Manpower Advanced Research and Training (SMART) Lab, funded by MeitY, which enables up to 200 concurrent users—including students, researchers, faculty members, startups, and innovators—to remotely access advanced hardware prototyping facilities anytime and from anywhere.
Situated in a serene and eco-friendly campus near Kozhikode, NIELIT Calicut serves as a hub for activities across Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship, and advanced skilling.
I invite aspiring students, professionals, innovators, and institutions to join hands with NIELIT Calicut in this journey of nation-building through knowledge, technology, and innovation. Together, let us strengthen the foundations of a truly Atmanirbhar Bharat
