Digital India Week

A report on NIELIT Extension Centre, Chuchuyimlang celebration of Digital India Week from 1st - 7th July 2015

Keeping in tune with the Government of India’s vision to transform India into a digital empowered society and knowledge economy NIELIT Extension Centre, Chuchuyimlang organized the Digital India Week from 1st - 7th July 2015. Observing that most parts of Nagaland are rural in nature, focus was shifted to how the talents of the rural people can be utilized with the usage of Information Technology for a better tomorrow.

Implementation of Digital Infrastructure such as Free WiFi hotspots at selected location of the town for the citizens, the different services provided at present such as Online NPSC Application submission, Digital Locker, of NBSE (School Education Board) services etc. along with soon to be released services by our State Government such as Online ST & Indigenous certificates etc. However all these services cannot be utilised if one is not a digital literate. So the various ICT tools such as digital library, e-education, m-education though which one can become a digital literate were discussed at length.

Name of Activities conducted:

01/07/2015: Introduction to Digital India and live Broadcast of the inauguration function organised in Delhi at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Doordashan.

02/07/2015: Expert Talks on e-Governance, Cyber Security & Hygiene and E-Services. Skit competition based on Advantages of Digital India was held.

03/07/2015: Visit to Friendship High School, Chuchuyimlang to spread awareness on Digital India.

04/07/2015: Participated in the e-Marathon organised by Department of IT & Communication, Govt of Nagaland at Mokokchung.

07/07/2015: Quiz competition was held where 19 students from 2 schools participated.

DIW Day 01/07/2015

A short program was held where Shri. Natwar Thakkar, Founder Secretary, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, as Chief Guest emphasized on the need to be literate in digital knowlege if one wants to be at par with the rest of the country. He also gave a brief background on how the Computer Institute at Chuchuyimlang was set up in the year 2006.

Earlier in the program, Shri Daniel Meren, Dy. Director and Incharge of the Centre explained to the participants what digital India is. The vision of digital India and the nine pillars of Digital India as envisioned by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) were made known to the public through simple PowerPoint presentations.

Later on at 4:00 PM, the participants watched the live broadcast of the Inaugural program of Digital India Week at New Delhi on Doordashan.

DIW Day 02/07/2015

As part of its digital initiative, NIELIT Chuchuyimlang officially launched two Software Applications.

Chief Guest, Ms Thejakhrenuo, EAC, Chuchu Town launched the Online Library Management System which is being used for paperless Library Maintenance.

Shri Natwar Thakkar Founder Secretary, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram also launched the Online e-Learning Management System, an online Application for accessing study materials, conduct examinations etc.

Ms. Thejakhrenuo, EAC, spoke on e-governance and how it will reform government through technology. Simplification of forms for Residential certficate, Schedule Tribes, Gun license etc will remove reduntant procedures currently being practised and bring in transperancy to the the government services.

Mr Limtsumong Tikhir, Faculty spoke on the importance of Cyber Security and Hygiene. Echoing our PM, Shri Narendra Modi statement about how a single click by a hacker can destablise the very foundation of Digital India, Mr. Tikhir also emphasized on the need for our people especially those residing in rural areas to be aware of the various crimes that are committed by cyber criminals. Mr Arunkumar, Faculty also spoke on the various E-Services available to the citizens. E-education, E-Healthcare, Technology available for farmers, E-courts etc were explained to the participants.

Skit competition based on Advantages of Digital India was performed by the students.

DIW Day 03/07/2015

A total of 17 participants from the Institute went up to Mokokchung to participate in the e-Marathon organised by the Department of IT & Communication and assisted by the Deputy Commissioner Office. Three of the students won the consolation prizes of 8 GB pen drive.

DIW Day 04/07/2015

Staffs along with some students visited Friendship High School, Chuchuyimlang and gave awareness on Digital India to their students and teachers. Various schemes of government for schools such as e-education, m-banking, e-library, e-scholarships etc and the importance of being a digital literate was explained to them.

DIW Day 07/07/2015

To conclude the Digital India Week, a quiz competition was held at NIELIT Chuchuyimlang Hall on the topic ICT Education. A total of 19 students from Govt. High School and Frienship High School, Chuchuyimlang participated in the quiz competition. Mr Purlemba and Lipokmendang from Govt Hugh School won the 1st Place while Sentiaien and Sangyumongla from Friendship High School won the 2nd place. Ms Imesen and Olemnungla won the 3rd place.

All participants were provided with certificates while the winners were presented with computer books.
