The NIELIT Guwahati Silchar Extension Centre is located at present in a rented space at Tarapur, Shibbari Road, Part - 7, Opposite of NMI (Netaji Memorial Institute) School, Silchar - 788003.

Silchar is the gateway to the Barak Valley . The Barak Valley comprises of three districts viz Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj and Silchar is in Cachar district. Silchar is well connected by air with flights of Air India and Jet Airways with almost all-important cities & towns of the country. Silchar is also well connected by direct broad gauge train (rail) service with Kolkata, New Delhi , Agartala, Guwahati  etc.

Silchar is also very well connected by regular (day & night) deluxe super bus service (both in govt. & private sector) with all important towns of Assam & all capital cities of the other NE states viz. Shillong, Agartala, Aizawl, Imphal, Kohima etc
