Roots & Aims of NIELIT Agartala Centre

With a view to facilitate the youth of Tripura to have easy access to education and training in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology resulting in generation of quality manpower, Govt. of Tripura is actively pursuing with Department of IT (DIT) Govt. of India for setting up of a RIIELIT in their state. In the meeting of Committee of Secretaries held on 25-9-2007 regarding priority areas of Govt. of Tripura, the Committee of Secretaries has recommended for setting up of a DOEACC Centre at Agartala, Tripura.

The Govt. of Tripura has accordingly provided 7,000 sq. ft. of built up space at the Directorate of IT Campus, ITI Road, Indranagar, Agartala – 799 006 where the Initial Training Facility of NIELIT Agartala Centre has been commissioned and was formally inaugurated on 10th February’2009 by Sri Manik Sarkar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura.

The Govt. of Tripura also formally handed over a 15.00 Acres plot of land at Radha Kishore Nagar Mouza, near Agartala for setting up of the proposed Centre on 10th February’2009. The land documents were formally handed over by Sri Badal Choudhury, Hon’ble Minister – Revenue etc. of Govt. of Tripura on 10th February’2009 at Agartala to Dr. S. Birendra Singh, Executive Director, DOEACC Society, New Delhi. In the mean time possession has been obtained of this plot of land by the NIELIT Agartala Centre.

The NIELIT Agartala Centre at the permanent campus at Radha Kishore Nagar will have the prime objective of creating skilled manpower in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology and related disciplines for making available industry ready professionals as also to provide infrastructure to promote e-learning. The Institute will offer training programs to improve employment opportunities and facilitate availability of quality IT manpower, which in turn will lead to growth of IT industry in the region. The Institute will be equipped with requisite infrastructure to facilitate and promote e learning. The Institute will also provide consultancy in e-Learning & IT and related assistance for development of IT industry in the North East and will function in close consultation with the Government of Tripura.

This Institute in the permanent campus is designed to be a Centre of excellence in the area of e-Learning and Information Technology. A special feature of the proposed NIELIT is that the Institute would have a mix of formal and non-formal sector courses. Such a mix will provide opportunities for education and training in Computers and Information Technology and related disciplines not only to school pass-outs with Science and Mathematics background; but also to students with Arts, Commerce and Humanities and Social Sciences background. The latter will thus have the opportunity to join the non-formal sector courses in Computers and related disciplines.
