To highlight the growing issue of “fake news” circulating in the digital platforms, Shri. Khagendra Sharma of NIELIT, Gangtok was invited as a panelist from Sikkim for the national TV programme “Facebook presents One India - Season 2” - a series aired by Republic TV – a national news channel at its studio located at Noida.
The episode will highlight the issue of fake news especially circulating in the Internet through various social media platforms and means to curb the same through public awareness and use of emerging technologies.
NIELIT, Gangtok as the training and education arm of Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt. of India has been spreading awareness and educating public on the dangers that persist in today’s digital era and the safety and security measures one needs to adopt for being safe.
Shri. Khagendra Sharma, Scientist of NIELIT, Gangtok working in the area of Cyber Security informed that to curb the problem of fake news circulating in the Internet, people need to be made aware, the legal framework has to be strengthened by the Government to make the social media and other such Internet platforms accountable under the law and emerging technologies such as “Machine Learning” can be put to use to classify/identify different types of news.
The show will be aired at 7:00 pm on 2nd February and 8:30 pm on 3rd February 2019 by the Republic TV.
