It is my privilege to pen a few words about our organization, NIELIT Imphal Centre.
National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), an Autonomous Scientific Society under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MoE&IT), Government of India, was set up to carry out Human Resource Development and related activities in the area of Information, Electronics & Communications Technology (IECT). NIELIT is engaged in both Formal & Non-Formal Education in the area of IECT besides development of industry oriented quality education and training programmes in the state-of-the-art areas. NIELIT has endeavored to set standards to be the country’s Premier Institution for Examination and Certification in the field of IECT. It is also one of the National Examination Bodis which accredits institutes/organizations for conducting courses in IT in the non-formal sector.
NIELIT Imphal is participating in Nation Building by conducting various long term & short term skill development courses in the fields of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology. NIELIT Imphal also offers various short term courses in the skill development sector with an objective of enhancing the employability of the youth of the State and country as a whole as mandated by the Govt. of India under the National Skill Development policy.

NIELIT ‘O’ Level courses in IT, Hardware and Multimedia are in the non-formal sector but leading to govt. recognized certificate/P.G. Diploma. Other short term courses are aimed at giving proficiency and the hands-on skill in the key areas of technology. The main emphasis is on updating students with the latest development in their fields of specialization after completion of their formal courses. This requirement is especially relevant in the fields of Electronics and Information Technology which are rapidly advancing all the time.
Apart from this, Corporate Training Programmes, Consultancy Projects and Sponsored Programmes are being undertaken with various agencies.
The Centre is now equipped with adequate infrastructure to be a leader in skill training in the State of Manipur. To facilitate the students of the rural areas and economically weaker sections of the society, NIELIT Imphal Centre constructed and commissioned hostels for boys and girls separately. Two extension centres of NIELIT Imphal Centre has been set up at Churachandpur and Senapati towns with training capacities of 600 each.
Since its inception in the year 1988, the centre has trained more than 4,699 students in formal long term courses and 6,553 in non-formal courses. The total training figure till date (including formal, non-formal and short term courses) is recorded as 65,275
